High
Cr content of the shell material and lack of free graphite characterizes
high Chromium rolls. The Cr7C3 carbides are fine-grained high hardness
(1600-2200VH) rod type carbides with excellent wear resistance. The matrix
varies from pearlite in softer grades to tempered martensite in harder ones.
All Hi
Cr rolls are normalized and temped to obtain optimum properties.
Hi Cr rolls are usually double poured, either centrifugally
or statically for the larger diameter rolls.
Hi Cr rolls have excellent wear resistance and suitable for
the first 3 stands of Hot Strip Mills (with an excellent anti banding
properties), Cold Strip Mills and finishing stands of Light Section Mills.
Hi Cr rolls have no hardness drop in the working layer. The
core can either contain flake or nodular graphite.
