Acicular Rolls

Applications    Mechanical Properties    Chemical Analyses    Hardness    Micrographics

Acicular rolls are stronger and more wear resistant than pearlitic rolls of the same hardness. These rolls are more highly alloyed and are capable of much higher hardness compared to pearlitic rolls.

Softer grades have bainitic matrix, and the hardest grades have bainitic - martensitic matrix.

Pearlitic rolls have a superior fire-crack resistance compared to acicular rolls. The resistance to fire-crack and the hardness drop can be improved by means of suitable heat treatment.

Some harder grades of acicular rolls can be double poured to achieve a tough core and neck
